The Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa Foundation announces the names of students selected for the late His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Scholarship, may he rest in peace, along with the Her Highness Shaikha Moza bint Hamad Al Khalifa Scholarship under the Riyada Scholarship Program. This program offers numerous benefits, including covering university tuition fees, training and educational courses, internship opportunities, community service, and enjoyable and educational semester meetings.

 

The program aims to create an environment that fosters the development of youth potential, enhances their academic and educational level, and strengthens their abilities and skills, ultimately creating a new generation of youth capable of leadership and responsibility.

Top 5% of participants in Huawei Seeds for the Future 2023

Zainab talked about her participation in Huawei Seeds for the Future 2023, which was held in Doha last September, where she was honored for excelling among the top 5% of participants, based on her performance with her team in the Tech4Good competition. According to this achievement, she was selected for a digital flight to China under the full sponsorship of Huawei, to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the trip included a visit to Huawei's state-of-the-art facilities, other leading artificial intelligence facilities, a visit to MWCS24 in Shanghai, a visit to drones designed to operate on drones, and a visit to the MAWAN smart port.

Student Shouq Al-Dhari spoke about her role as an ambassador for Huawei, and Shouq said that this taught her valuable lessons in balancing the study with extracurricular activities, pointing out that her role revolves around integrating what she learned from Huawei programs and courses into university curricula, and encouraging students to participate in the ICT competition and the ICT Academy. Shouq noted that she was responsible for promoting Huawei's initiatives and inspiring others to explore new opportunities in the technology industries, stressing the importance of guiding students towards professional growth while contributing to the development of a tech-friendly academic environment and linking education with innovation.

Student Esraa Al-Qattan participated in the HiPO program, presented by the Institute of Public Administration (BIPA), and the student Esraa said that this participation taught her valuable lessons in balancing all life obligations, as the student Esraa and her team won first place in the "Youth of Gold" award through a study they did under the title "The Role of Youth in Preserving National Values", and the student and her team underwent the 48-hour challenge, which they were able to win. The student, Israa, pointed out that this experience helped her a lot to develop the leadership, national and organizational side.

Huawei Seeds for the Future regional competition in Uzbekistan

The Interior Design Department at Ahlia University achieved a new milestone this week, as Yaqeen Ibrahim won first place in the "Startup Weekend" competition, a global competition that allows young people to present innovative solutions and establish startups within 54 hours.

 

Yaqeen Ibrahim presented an innovative idea aimed at helping mothers with hearing disabilities through a smart bracelet that vibrates when the baby cries, enabling mothers to wake up and take care of their babies while sleeping. This innovation was well received by the judges and participants, and Yaqeen and her team proved their ability to transform challenges into effective solutions that serve the community.

 

Startup Weekend is an annual event that brings together innovators and entrepreneurs to develop their ideas and turn them into actionable projects, and the victory of Yaqeen Ibrahim and her team is an important step towards supporting innovation in Bahrain, especially in the field of disability-friendly technology.

 

Yaqeen Ibrahim added after the win: "This event was a very special experience, it taught me a lot about teamwork and creative thinking. I feel proud to have been able to offer a practical solution that serves an important segment of society."

The journalist Sara Najib won the Prime Minister's Award for Journalism from Al-Ayam newspaper in the category of Best Interview, which she conducted with Mr. Jamal Fakhro. Sara stated, "The interview was based on constructive criticism," which qualified it for the award.

Najib is a journalist in the local news section of Al-Ayam newspaper and is a mother of two children, a son and a daughter. She graduated from the University of Bahrain with a degree in Media and Journalism. She is a board member of the Bahraini Journalists Association for two consecutive terms, serving as the head of the media committee. She is also a member of the Manama Narratives initiative and chairs the Public Relations Committee.

The Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ahlia University Prof. Abdullah Al Hawaj and the President of Ahlia University Prof. Mansoor Alaali confirmed that the Ph.D. symposium, organized annually by Ahlia University in collaboration with Brunel University, London, demonstrated distinguished and competitive researchers, noting that Bahraini women showed an excellent participation in presenting and discussing their scientific papers and studies that tackled the recent issues in order to find effective solutions and provide recommendations for future studies.

In her keynote, Dr. Zakeya Sanad shared her experience in the Ph.D. program. She is an active reviewer and won the ’Young Woman Researcher in Corporate Governance Award’ on 23rd January 2023. Dr. Zakeya provided tips to ease the phase of obtaining a Ph.D. degree. These tips illustrated the importance of listening to the supervisor’s advice, do not compare yourself to others, learning to rest not to quit if you get tired, and establishing a routine. Further pieces of advice confirmed the importance of submitting the research studies to at least 3 ’ 4 journals, participating in workshops and presenting the papers in conferences to receive comments and take advantage of the recommendations from the scientists and other researchers, joining different associations and bodies to be updated of the recent developments.

 

Ms. Aysha Aljawder discussed part of her research paper titled ’Assessing the adoption of Key Principles for a Sustainable Lean Interior Design in the Construction Industry: The Case of Bahrain’. She illustrated that the annual construction waste is expected to reach 2.2 billion tons globally by 2025, and 30% of building materials delivered to a construction site can end up as waste. Therefore, the study aimed to critically investigate potential factors influencing the effect of lean management for sustainable interior design in the public construction sector.

While Ms. Zainab Majed’s study focused on the effects of flipped classroom practice on improving students’ engagement when interpreting relations between geometrical shapes. The research had highlighted the benefits of collaborative learning practice and technology in the flipped classroom environment. In addition, the findings provided evidence of the positive effect of in-class collaborative working on students’ involvement, cohesiveness, and satisfaction. It also highly supported previous research, acknowledging that flipped classroom promote student motivation as a result of the active learning environment.

The study of Ms. Reem Syed Mansoor concluded that there is a relationship between technology, market accessibility, and market classifications. Hence, the financial markets with advanced technology and better market accessibility conditions are promoted to higher market classifications considering the better environment the provide to investors. This is measured through three factors such as market infrastructure, regulations, and openness to foreign ownership.

Ms. Maryam AlDhaen’s paper titled ’Artificial Intelligence enabled sustainable Banking Sector Ecosystem in Kingdom of Bahrain’, explained the relationship between AI and sustainable decision-making plan, as well as studied how the banking sector faced the challenges of AI. The study concluded that the adoption of AI in the system will lead to effective multiple managed decisions, better than the classical and traditional way.

Ms. Hanin AlDoy presented a literature review of her research which aimed at the emerging employee engagement concepts, the anchoring theories of the development of employee engagement, and the strategies and constructs of employee engagement in the workplace.

For her part, Ms. Maha AlSadoon discussed the benefits of using edge computing, which is represented in reduction of latency by processing the data closer to the costumer, providing more security than computing at the cloud because it is less vulnerable to numerous varieties of threats to its scope, sending data from edge to the cloud takes up spectral resources, there’s just not enough bandwidth for data transportation. Lastly, by processing data at the edge, you eliminate network reliability problems. The study concluded that cloud computing and edge computing are complementary and mutually reinforcing. Despite edge computing’s promise, vital issues still hinder its rapid implementation and development.

Researcher Zainat Doulari has obtained a Master's degree with distinction and first-class honors from the Department of Media and Public Relations at Al-Ahlia University. Her thesis was titled "Public Attitudes Towards Digital Advertising Campaigns in the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture." The study aimed to explore the public's attitudes towards digital advertising campaigns in government institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture as a case study. The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Abdul Sadeq Hasan.

AU has quality staff working in collaboration with Directorate of Admission & Registration, Directorate and staff of admissions makes decisions regarding applications, apply forms in the admissions process, both the administrative staff and the coordination are women, the purpose of this unit is to evaluate and choose the applications that meet the admission requirements taking into account gender equity and regardless of race, color, religion, nationality or psyche or learning disability.

 

For Ahlia University, equity and equality are fundamental bases in its policies, these help to improve the training of professionals, in addition to implementing them within the teaching staff at the facilities, it can be observed that the policies established in the university do not discriminate between women and men because there is a mutual balance.

CENTRE FOR MEASUREMENT & EVALUATION’[13]

The responsibilities of the Centre for Measurement & Evaluation (CME) include the creation of policies, the generation of questionnaires and interview surveys, the distribution, collation and interpretation of the results of these questionnaires and any other forms of qualitative and quantitative measures that can help collect and produce data that are important to Ahlia University.

 

In this case, they are in charge of carrying out the process of measuring the application, admission and completion rate of women who want and study at university, in order to generate possible analyzes and with this generate strategies, if required to include better for women in the education.

 

The Centre is monitoring the views of alumni and alumnae on the quality of their educational experiences at Ahlia University. Surveys is conducted to gauge the adequacy of the infrastructure, for pilot projects envisioned for the future and any other issues that the Management or the Centre Members view as noteworthy. The data is used for the purposes of improving the quality of teaching and learning, for the evaluation of faculty and staff (including self-assessment), and for gauging the opinions of the faculty and other employees on issues that the Management deems important. The Centre is supervised by an Academic Council consisting of seven members and chaired by Prof. Kailash Madan, Adviser to President for Measurement and Evaluation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ahlia University has a policy of equity and equality which promotes acceptance and belonging regardless of the factors immersed in people such as skin color, disability, age, employment status, national, etc. Therefore, the Center for Measurement and Evaluation (CME) is in charge of developing the acceptance forms which contain equal treatment for both men and women, within this center they are in charge of admissions, applications and acceptances of the participants.

 

In addition, the Center for Measurement and Evaluation (CME) effectively develops admissions interviews to counteract the established gap between men and women, so that women also have the possibility of being additive within Ahlia University.

The Bahrain Calligraphy Exhibition evoked artworks prepared by Bahraini women, who numbered 18 female artists. Their works address multiple issues related to Bahraini women and their achievements and tenders.

 

Professor Abdullah bin Yousef Al-Hawaj opened the exhibition next Saturday, with a number of artistic and academic elites in the Kingdom, in a unique event that reflects the comprehensiveness of the Bahraini female calligrapher's experience, and presents a wide range of distinguished female talents, and sheds light on the creative skills of Bahraini calligraphers.

Effort in equality between men and women in business and society is a remarkable achievement by Bahrain when compared to other countries. The Conference on Equal Opportunity in Business and Society is a collaborative research endeavor between Ahlia University and Brunel University. This conference a testimony to the current success as well as a lever to move forward with the equality agenda. There is a bouquet of expertise who will present empirical studies on equal opportunities in several areas and a selection of interactive workshops. This first day of this 2-day event was about real studies on equality issues in business and society. The papers showed the results of these studies and what lessons can be learned for future works. The second day offered three parallel workshops on new methods in Qualitative Research. The workshop facilitated to provide hands-on learning experiences for expert and novice researchers in new powerful methods for research into equal opportunities.

For Ahlia University, reciproity is paramount in its work, acceptance, socialization, etc. Within the institution there is non-discrimination where students and teachers are not judged based on their gender, skin color, religion, etc.

 

Therefore, the access plans within the university for women are derived in administrations, scholarships, recognitions, honorable mentions, discounts on academic enrollment, mentoring, etc.

The role of women at Ahlia University is taken into account by the directors, providing them with different means of access and promotion which lead to events, conferences, talks, strategies.
