Ahlia University recently hosted the international conference titled “Inspiration and Innovative Design Trends,” featuring a range of presentations from Bahraini and Gulf female researchers, including architects, designers, and academics. These scholars explored the vital role of architecture and design in enhancing health, psychological, and educational environments in urban projects. Their research underscored the necessity of considering human identity, behavior, needs, and aspirations in architectural and design practices, emphasizing the importance of localizing activities and investing in human resources within the region.
During the conference, the Chairperson of the Interior Design Department at Ahlia University highlighted the innovative ideas and methodologies presented by the Bahraini and Gulf researchers. Their approaches integrated design, sustainability, and environmental comfort, focusing on nature, leveraging modern technologies, and promoting social sustainability. These efforts aim to formulate a comprehensive vision for a more sustainable future that meets contemporary demands. “The researchers’ papers concluded that innovative design is not merely an aesthetic form, but a lifestyle that enhances interaction between humans and their environment,” she remarked.
Dr. Iman Ibrahim, an Associate Professor at the University of Sharjah, emphasized the significance of nature as an inspiration for architectural design. She pointed out that incorporating biomimicry into design leads to environmentally sustainable solutions. Dr. Ibrahim showcased notable examples, such as turbines inspired by whales and engineering adaptations of high-speed trains modeled after betta fish, resulting in a remarkable 70% reduction in noise levels. She also discussed the role of artificial intelligence in generating designs inspired by natural elements and the importance of recycled materials in fostering sustainability.
