Al-Hawaj Encourages Students to Have Curiosity and Think Beyond Ordinary

Professor Abdulla Al-Hawaj, Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, urged Interior Design students and all aspiring creatives to embrace innovation and have passion for exploration, encouraging them to challenge conventional boundaries. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to offering high quality education and training opportunities to help students grow throughout their academic journey. He also expressed pride in the young, ambitious talents striving for success and excellence.

His remarks came during the induction day for new students in the Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. The event was organized by the College of Arts and Sciences, to introduce students to the major, outline the curriculum, and inspire them to take full advantage of their educational experiences and training opportunities.

Prof. Al-Hawaj explained that the field of interior design offers much more than just creativity; it also presents a unique opportunity to impact people’s daily environments. He said: “You are the generation of innovators who will redefine future designs. Make the most of every opportunity to enhance your skills and showcase your ideas to the world.” He added, “Interior design is a broad field that includes home design, offices, hotels, retail spaces, and even public areas. This variety gives you countless opportunities to specialize and succeed across different sectors. The work you do contributes to improving quality of life, as interior design blends creativity with theoretical and technical knowledge and a deep understanding of human behavior.”

Dr. May Al-Saffar, Chairperson of Interior Design Department, emphasized that interior design is not solely about academic knowledge; it requires cultural awareness, strong communication skills, and the ability to connect environment, history, culture, space, and colors. She noted that Ahlia University’s faculty is composed of distinguished academics who are ready to enrich their students’ learning experience.

The event also featured motivational speeches from academics and specialists in interior design, encouraging students to showcase their work and collaborate with local and international companies to enhance their skills and broaden their career prospects. In addition, several Interior Design graduates shared their success stories, encouraging students to start small projects and use social media channels to promote their work and reach a wider audience.

The event also included interactive and entertainment activities, allowing students to explore their practical and creative skills. These activities helped create an energetic atmosphere, fostering excitement and enthusiasm among students as they embarked on their academic journey.
